As Americans of Haitian descent and daughters of Haiti, the Haitian Ladies NetworkⓇ denounces the intense campaign waged against former Harvard University President Dr. Claudine Gay, aimed at dismantling open access and opportunity for all. We are proud of Dr. Gay who handled it with courage, dignity and compassion.
We celebrate Dr. Gay's historic appointment and her decades of hard work and leadership that merited this role. We thank her for also reminding us that in times of adversity, true strength of character is revealed.
Like Dr. Gay, we were raised with a profound belief in the American Dream. Our parents instilled in us the importance of education and resilience — guiding values on our journeys to becoming pioneers in many fields.
Dr. Gay resigned from her post of all days, on January 2nd, the Haitian Day of the Ancestors. We call praise to her Haitian ancestors who fought and won freedom from slavery and colonial rule, offering refuge throughout history to countless fleeing persecution, including from the holocaust.
We join with all who remain committed to supporting her continued work and legacy, as we strive to move the world toward justice.
